Prism Privacy Policy

Overview

Prism is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with a dashboard of your open tabs, grouped by domain. This privacy policy explains what data Prism accesses and how it handles that data.

Data Collection

Prism does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. The extension operates entirely within your browser. No user data is sent to the developer or any third party.

Data Stored Locally

Prism uses chrome.storage.local to persist user preferences on your device. This data never leaves your browser:

• Saved tabs ("Saved for Later") — URLs and titles of tabs you choose to bookmark, along with timestamps and completion status.
• Quick Links — URLs and titles of custom shortcut websites you add to your dashboard.

This data is stored locally on your device and is not synced, uploaded, or shared with anyone. Clearing your browser data will remove this information.

Permissions

Prism requests the following permissions, each with a specific and necessary purpose:

• tabs — Required to read your open tab URLs and titles for grouping and display, close tabs, switch between tabs (including across windows), and monitor tab changes to auto-refresh the dashboard.
• activeTab — Required to identify the currently active tab when you interact with the extension, enabling features like highlighting the current tab in the dashboard.
• storage — Required to save your "Saved for Later" bookmarks and Quick Links to chrome.storage.local so they persist across browser sessions.

External Network Requests

Prism makes two types of external network requests, neither of which transmits user data:

• Google Fonts — Loads font stylesheets (Space Grotesk, DM Sans, DM Mono) for the dashboard UI. No user data is included in these requests.
• Google Favicon API (https://www.google.com/s2/favicons) — Fetches website icons for display in tab rows and Quick Links. Only the domain name is sent (e.g., domain=github.com). No personal identifiers or browsing history are transmitted.

Remote Code

Prism does not load or execute any remote code. All JavaScript and CSS are bundled within the extension package. The only external resources loaded are font stylesheets (CSS, not executable code) and favicon images (PNG, not executable code).

Third-Party Services

Prism does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. There are no SDKs for Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Facebook Pixel, or similar tools.

Data Sharing

Prism does not share any data with anyone. There is no server backend, no database, no API. All data remains on your device.

Children's Privacy

Prism does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected at all, the extension is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated in the future, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
